Leave it to the Lions to not get a deal in writing before letting the deal leak to the media. Originally, it was reported that the Lions would trade big Shaun Rogers to Cincinnati for a 3rd and 5th draft choice.
Later, we learn the Bengals never agreed to this. So the Lions scramble and pull off a trade with the Cleveland Browns for a 3rd-rounder and cornerback Leigh Bodden. Is Bodden better than a 5th round choice? I say yes, as he as NFL game experience, and has made plays - making 12 picks in his career. He was undrafted coming from Duquesne. The Bengals 3rd round choice would have been a bit higher than Cleveland's, but who cares.
Bodden has a Myspace page. Not sure how I feel about this, but view it for yourself here. He has a few arrests on his record, but I'm sure the 9 turnovers he caused last season (six picks and three forced fumbles) balances the equation out.
The Detroit Lions traded Defensive Tackle Shaun Rogers today. In return, the Lions acquired a third and a fifth round draft pick in April's draft. Great. Arguably a top-five defensive lineman for picks that GM Matt Millen will waste. Waste, like throwing out the other half of a pizza because you're full.
Man, what does this mean? It means my head is going to explode. It means that my beloved Detroit Lions will once again trade their best player on defense for the second straight year. First, Dre Bly was shipped to the Denver Broncos. Second year, we end up with slop. Bring the pain.
