Am I starting to eat the Lions cornbread? Not quite yet. As a season ticket holder who has endured the Matt Millen reign,
it has been hard to admit to being from Michigan when the football team stinks
so badly. Not this year. The Detroit Lions are now 2-0, with wins on
the road and at home. On Sunday, the
Lions won a game that they would have lost in previous season. The offense, particularly both quarterbacks,
made many mistakes. John Kitna, the
starter, had his bell rung and in comes J.T. O’Sullivan, a journeyman
quarterback. Between the two they
turned the ball over 5 times – 2 fumbles and 3 interceptions.
Despite the turnovers, Minnesota played with the same
greased ball. The Lions Defense only
all rookie running back Adrian Peterson 66 yards on 20 carries. And Tavaris Jackson? Like most Jacksons, he sucked. The Lions were on him like stink on a
monkey.
Next
week, the Lions head to Philadelphia to face the Eagles. The Eagles have a much better team –
complete with a great backfield with quarterback Donavon McNabb and running
back Brian Westbrook. Marty Mornhinweg, the former Lions head
coach, is now calling the offensive plays for the Iggles. If we can beat Marty’s Men – I’ll put my bib
on and knock back some delicious Lions cornbread. The good thing is McNabb is whining about something and Westbrook
is banged up, as is the Eagles defensive secondary. Fire up the oven and shove the cornbread in.
