The Price is Right

Come on down! Sharon and I recently watched the primetime version of The Price is Right! Bob Barker is retiring from the show after 30 years hosting it. This prompted a discussion – is there a better game show on television? Jeopardy! and the Wheel of Fortune are long-running shows, Press Your Luck and Remote Control were entertaining – none of them exude the mindless fun that is The Price is Right. 

The games make the show special. Who wouldn’t want to play Plinko or Safe Crackers? What makes the show truly great is the man – Bob Barker. He’s been in show business for 50 years, and hosting the Price is Right for over 35 years. He has amassed 17 Emmys while hosting the longest-running game show in history. 

He has a great wit and keeps the show moving along. Contestants who come on the show wear shirts depicting Bob as an icon. When someone wins a showcase and is able to meet The Man – it’s like they are meeting The Beatles or the Pope. Some have to struggle to just utter a greeting.

Bob said he'd take on a movie role if the right one came along, but filmmakers, take note: "I refuse to do nude scenes. These Hollywood producers want to capitalize on my obvious sexuality, but I don't want to be just another beautiful body."

Thirty-five years - that is three years longer than I’ve been alive. I remember watching the show at my baby-sitters house before afternoon kindergarten class. I remember watching in college, during a hand of Euchre. And I still watch today at restaurants that let us change the channel to what we like – Little Mexico and O’Tooles in downtown Grand Rapids.

Weird Converter

That crazy Internet is at it again.  Today I stumbled upon a new website called Weird Converter.  You can convert the weight, height or length of random things.  For example, you can find out the weight of a hockey puck.  Or you can see how much a Keg of Beer weighs compared to a Spider Monkey. 

Pipe Dream

This is one of the most G-rated YouTube videos that I have enjoyed.  Sat in the chair slightly dumbfounded by the sheer amount of effort that must be needed to produce a video such as this.  Piss off, Blue Man Group.

Bleed the Freak

Man, I still loves me some Alice in Chains.  Sirius Satellite Radio has a new channel -  #24.  Lithium is a channel devoted to Alternative and Grunge music from the 1990's.  You'll here an AIC song every hour, or your eggrolls are free.

No-Name Thurston Hits 36 Weeks

No, we still don't have a name picked out.  We're close - the list has been shrunk to three (maybe four) names.  TCO is now 36 weeks old.  Mommy is now dilated to one centimeter.  Daddy makes dinner.

Next week, she is technically considered full-term, although 40 weeks is the target.  Baby Thurston is now close to six pounds and 19 inches long. 

I cannot golf

Earlier this week, I went golfing with some buddies after work.  We went to Quail Ridge Golf Course here in Ada.  While I had fun, I realized I'm no golfer. 

Total tally:
* Four lost balls
* Three duffed balls
* Two whiffs
* One  near-fatality as I almost hit the beer cart

TCO's Blackout Baby Shower

Last Saturday, Friends of TCO threw her a rockin' Baby Shower.  Everyone was very generous and got her some great clothes, toys, as well as diaper bags and a cool stroller.

Thank you to everyone who was able to attend and special thanks to Teams Sleper/Hastings, The Traverse City Mafia (Kurt and Courtney), and Jackson, Jackson, Jackson.

The Baby T is 35 Weeks

Baby Thurston is now 35 weeks old.  She is now a five pounder - about the weight of a bag of sugar.  TCO is approximately 18 inches long and growing like a weed.  Her kidneys are fully developed and her little liver is working now as well.

Yet another basement update

One more week.  Hopefully, the basement will be done in one week.  I'm a bit skeptical, but we'll see.  This week, the ceiling was done and the walls were primed.

I look forward to having a drink at the bar, and watching TV down there.  Soon.  Count the days.

34 Weeks for Baby Thurston

Baby Thurston is now 18 inches long and 4.75 pounds.  If you haven't seen it yet, earlier this week I posted a picture of Sharon and TCO, and you can see that they both are getting bigger.  Today, we met with a potential pediatrician.  My barber cut her grandfather's hair, as well as he son's hair.  He said she's a good person, and that's good enough for me.
